Brown Box Service
One Person at a Time
“Feeding the community one person at a time” focuses on providing meals or food assistance to those in need. We emphasize the importance of addressing hunger and food insecurity on a personal and individual level, rather than just looking at the issue as a large-scale problem.
By “feeding one person at a time,” we recognize the unique circumstances and challenges faced by each individual and working to meet their specific needs. This approach helps us to build a sense of community and supports those who are struggling with food insecurity in a tangible and meaningful way.
The Brown Box food security service was created during the height of the pandemic, as the COVID-19 pandemic profoundly impacted food security within the community. The pandemic has disrupted food supply chains, created economic uncertainty, and made it more difficult for people to access food for many in the community.
In response to these challenges, Genesis Community Foundation created an innovative food security service, such as the brown box food security program.
This service provided reliable access to food on a weekly basis for those in need and help to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on food security.
Overall, the creation of a brown box food security program during the height of the pandemic highlighted the importance of innovative and agile approaches to addressing food insecurity, especially in times of crisis.
1, 800 + Participants
1,840 individuals participated in the weekly delivery of food items. Of which over 900 children under the age of 18 benefited from the service.
2000 + Deliveries
Each week, over 300 families received a Brown Box delivered directly to their front door.
49,000 + Meals
Over 7 weeks, 49, 860 meals were provided to families and seniors who registered for the service.
Gift Cards
To supplement the weekly brown Box delivery, gift cards were also included to ensure that perishable items such as milk and eggs were accessible to the families.
The Extra
GCF included cookie sheets, pizza pans, and other sundry items. This was to ensure that the families had access to the tools needed to make the meal items.

Client Impact Satements
Here’s what some of our clients say about the programs & services we offer.
I really enjoy coming to GCF meeting people. Learning about peoples culture. Nature. And seeing places in Quebec, in Canada. The staff are doing a good job and I'm very happy. And I look forward to coming to the centre. I hope it continues.
For the program, I got a lot of education of things that I didn't know. And. The chance to learn things that I didn't think at my age. Would get to learn. And see. Thank you, Erica, for the knowledge that God has given you to share with all of us. May God continue to give you much more knowledge to teach each, each, and all of us. God bless you and thank you very much.
This is someone who enjoyed all the classes I have attended at GCF. Wednesdays it's so much fun and laughter. Tuesday -v ery, very nice seeing different parts of the world and on Fridays, the tablet class, and I have learned so, so much. I am very happy I have a place to go. Thanks so much.
